Easter’s coming

If you are parent to a child who is dairy free you have to get creative at Easter.  I’ve spent a bit of time of the last few weeks looking for dairy and soya free options for myself and my son.  Here are my top six, in no particular order.

1. Moo Free Easter Honeycomb Egg – £4.25

Cocoa Solids* ^40%](Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass), Sugar* ^31%], Rice Powder* ^18%], Honeycomb Toffee ^10%](Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Sodium Bicarbonate), Sunflower Lecithin (E322) & Natural Flavouring, *Organic ingredients. 90% of the agricultural ingredients are produced in accordance with the rules of organic production.

Moo Free do a selection of eggs and most supermarkets sell them now, along with Holland & Barrett. I love the honeycomb one, so may be this is why I put it first.

2. Dark Chocolate Cheeky Bunnies – £4.99

Dark Chocolate contains Cocoa Solids 74%, Organic Dark Chocolate (Organic Cocoa Mass 67%, Organic Sugar 25%, Organic Cocoa Butter 8%, Organic Natural Flavouring: Vanilla)

If you like dark chocolate, these are for you.

3.  Holland & Barrett Good Life Dairy Free Egg 85g – £3.99

Cane Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Rice Powder (rice syrup powder, rice starcli, rice flour) Cocoa mass, Emulsifier-Sunflower Lecithin. May contain traces of soya.

Not bad, but I think there are nicer options out there.

4.  Plamil Organic Fair-trade Alternative to Milk Chocolate Hollow Easter Egg, 85g  – £3.94

Sugar (35%), cocoa butter, rice powder (rice syrup powder, rice starch, rice flour)(20%), cocoa mass emulsifier,-sunflower, Lecithin, Cocoa butter and mass 42%, Sugar, cocoa: Traded in compliance with Fair trade Standards, total 78.5%.

This is my least favourite.

5.  Booja Borja Hazelnut Crunch Truffle Easter Egg 35g – £9.99

Chocolate*(cocoa solids*55%, cane sugar*, vanilla*), Coconut Oil*, Hazelnuts* 18%, Cocoa Powder*.  * = Organically grown ingredient. May also contain peanuts, cashews and almonds.

They also sell Midnight Expresso, Champagne, larger 138g eggs and a large selection of truffles. So by far my favourite and the most mummy indulgent.

6. Essy and Bella Dinos – £2.50

Cocoa Butter, Sugar (23%), Rice Powder (rice syrup powder, rice starch, rice flour), Cocoa Mass, Chicory Root Extract (6.5%), Emulsifier: Sunflower Lecithin                                                                     Contains cocoa solids 47% minimum. May contain traces of nuts. Dairy free, lactose free, casein free, soya free, gluten free, wheat free. Vegetarian and Vegan.

Easy and Bella look like they may well have more Easter items coming soon.

*All of the ingredients have been taken from the links website.  Always check thoroughly yourself in case of any change.

There are far more options about that have soya in. Soya free can be more of a challenge to find.
